Young Carers
Young Carers
At our school we recognise that some pupils may have caring responsibilities at home. A young carer is a child or young person who provides care or support to a family member due to illness, disability, mental health needs, or substance misuse. This care and support can be for a parent, a sibling a grandparent or any other significant person.
We understand that having caring duties can sometimes impact a child's wellbeing, attendance and engagement with learning. We are committed to identifying and supporting young carers so they can achieve their full potential and enjoy school life.
Our school aims to:
-
Identify young carers early and ensure they feel recognised and supported
-
Provide a safe and supportive environment where pupils feel comfortable talking about their situation
-
Offer reasonable adjustments where appropriate
-
Work in partnership with families and relevant external agencies
-
Ensure young carers have the same opportunities as their peers
If you think your child may be a young carer, please contact Mrs Bainbridge, at the school.
Mrs Bainbridge is the school 'Young Carers Champion' and will be happy to make any referrals and offer support.
We have also started a 'Young Carers Drop In' which will take place every Wednesday lunchtime in the Star Room, it is an opportunity for our Young Carers to come together.
