Science
At Canvey Junior School, our Science curriculum is built around high-quality planning from a variety of sources that help ignite scientific curiosity. Teachers adapt and enhance these materials to ensure lessons are engaging, practical and accessible for all learners.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that key scientific ideas, vocabulary and enquiry skills are revisited and developed each year. This enables pupils to build on prior knowledge and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Each year group studies two Science topics per term, with learning designed to be hands-on, exploratory and rooted in real-life contexts.
Science at Canvey Junior School encourages children to ask questions, test ideas and think critically about how things work. Pupils learn to plan and carry out investigations, observe closely, record findings and draw conclusions using evidence. They explore a broad range of scientific disciplines – including biology, chemistry, and physics – while developing the skills needed to work scientifically.
As their knowledge grows, children gain a clearer understanding of key scientific concepts and how these relate to everyday life. Our aim is for all pupils to be supported and challenged so they become confident, inquisitive young scientists who enjoy exploring, discovering and explaining the world.
