Sports Teams

Boys' Football

Recently, our boys took part in a football tournament at Waterside which had 21 teams competing against each other. There were three groups of seven teams and our boys found themselves in a fairly even ability group which saw lots of draws in the first few games. However, after drawing our first game 0-0, the team managed to win four out of the next five games, losing only once to Kingston Primary. This put us on even points with two other teams but we managed to scrape through to the semi-finals as the best runner up from all three groups. This meant a tough fixture against a strong Grove Wood team; however, after a fairly even game, the match went to penalties. It was a best of three penalties and we were fortunate enough to win and progress to the final for a grudge match against Kingston. Tensions were high, but so too was the confidence and belief that they could win the game. Things were briefly uncertain when we conceded a penalty, only for the other team to miss. This was a warning and our team rallied to score, what turned out to be the winning goal of the final. The boys were elated with their win as they showed great determination, team work and resilience throughout the competition. They should be immensely proud of winning the competition and now look forward to competing in the County Finals in November. Congratulations boys!

Girls' Football

Last week the team of girls took part in a football tournament at Waterside. The girls got off to a slow start losing their first two games (0-3 and 0-1); however, as they all started to gain more experience of playing together, and for some, this was their first time playing competitive football, performances and results began to improve. They drew their next two games (0- 0 and 1-1) and also scoring their first goal of the day followed by a win in their final game (2-0). Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough for our team to progress out of the groups stage but overall the girls had a great day, made excellent progress and Wood team; however, after a fairly even game, the match went to penalties. It was a best of three penalties and we were fortunate enough to win and progress to the final for a grudge match against Kingston. Tensions were high, but so too was the confidence and belief that they could win the game. Things were briefly uncertain when we conceded a penalty, only for the other team to miss. We look ahead confidently to upcoming league fixtures next half term. Well done girls!

Girls' Netball

On the 9th of October, the girl’s netball team played their first league game at home against Lubbins. For some players this was their first time playing against another school. Their teamwork was outstanding and it was lovely to see parents and carers there to support them. The final score was 17-0 to Canvey. Well done girls!
