The English Upper School Masterclass children spent the day focussing on a classic children’s author, Philippa Pearce. We started by reading excerpts from ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’ and then discussed the elements which were important to her novel. We then used these ideas to visualise real people and places who could form the basis for the group’s writing. The children were then able to move on to write their own versions of ‘Tom’s Midnight Garden’.
Finally the children were delighted to be able to share the process with their parents, who came into school for the last part of the day, to share in the children’s learning.
