Mr D Neale -Vice Chair of Governors
Term of Office - 29.4.16 - 30.6.2019
My family’s publishing and bookbinding business moved on to Canvey Island in 1948 and I joined the company in 1961. During my career, I was Managing Director for forty years and have therefore acquired both knowledge and practical experience in all aspects of business management. However, my main focus has always been on finance and it is particularly in this area that I feel able to contribute to the governance of Canvey Junior School.
Over the years that I have worked on Canvey Island I have been involved with several educational institutions, both in the primary and secondary sectors, including periods as a school governor. In addition to my interests in business and education, I have been the chair of the management committee of The Bookbinders’ Charitable Society for more than twenty years and am also currently treasurer of Chelmsford Home-Start charity.
On a personal front, I have three grown-up children and one grandchild, and my overall objective as a school governor is to do my best to ensure that all the children for whom I have a responsibility are provided with every opportunity to achieve their potential.

I still regularly teach whole class and small groups across the school and enjoy the unique challenges my role brings.

I am very proud of the school and highlight it wherever I can in County Hall and believe that the Head and Staff, Chairman and Governing body do a superb job and although I lead a very busy public life I do my best to support them and attend all the meetings and events that the school have, because I believe the children deserve the best school we can provide.

I am a parent of 6 children ageing from 29 years to 10 years. I hope to bring a voice and the opinions from the parents of our children who attend the school. I aim to represent parents’ comments and views on subjects to do with our children's learning, and on every issue to ask myself what I think as a parent, and what would other parents think about this. I want to be involved in making and prioritising the decisions which will best benefit the children attending our outstanding school. I hope to be a good parent governor and an asset to the school.

My involvement with Canvey Junior School goes back a number of years and has covered a variety of roles. Firstly, as a pupil at the school and then as a parent, when my son was able to attend also, before becoming a member of staff. I began working here when my son was still a pupil, and have been here for 23 years. I have served as a governor for 15 years. My background in banking helps me to monitor that the children are receiving the best value from their time at the school.

As a member of staff I am privileged to be part of a team who place a huge importance of ensuring that every pupil who passes through the school has the opportunity to achieve their highest potential. As a member of the governing body I am also privileged to be able to ensure that this ethos continues.
