Our Lower School Masterclass children spent the day looking at shape. They started by organising shapes into Venn diagrams and then categorised them into regular and irregular shapes, using the maths skill of conjecturing. After measuring the internal angles, the children were able to apply what they had learned to programme the Probots (robotic cars), to draw their shapes. This involved the children using an algorithm which included degrees as well as accurate measurements in order for the shapes to be drawn properly. Despite encountering initial problems the children were able to overcome them with their new found knowledge and succeeded in drawing squares, pentagons, rectangles, hexagons, and equilateral triangles. At the end of the day their parents were taught how to programme the Probots, and see the children presented with their certificates of achievement.
