Last week the Lower School English Masterclass took place. The focus for this was high quality writing and identifying what this looked like in the children's work. To warm up their brains the children had to describe a fruit using these high quality features. The main activity of the day saw the children using the outside classroom as a stimulus and discussing what mysterious worlds may be lurking in our quad. We went outside with our magnifying glasses to get a closer look. From there the children created their own map of their tiny world and then decided on characters and settings. The last activity saw them write their own beginning and middle to their story. In the Masterclass workshop, with the parents, the children explained the activities they had carried out and then asked their parents to complete the rest of the story the children had written. All the children were very studious in making sure their parents used the high quality writing features! They were then presented with their certificates of achievement.
